PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
