Sam Fender has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which works to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.
Fender was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.
He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.
"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."
Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.
Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.
He also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across the UK.
The money helped venues that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.
Other venues were granted financial assistance in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.
"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.
Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.
In Pulp received the prize in 1996 for their record their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would contribute their prize money to the charity the charity.
In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her prize across a few charities, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.
"Additionally, I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.
Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the local youth club that supported their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.
Additionally the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.
"The victory was quite enough," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."
Recently, the MVT revealed it had rescued two grassroots venues in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.
One venue in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the venues.
